Music Education

Nicholas Kazonis
Nicholas Kazonis is a professional music educator and multi-instrumentalist based in Northwest Indiana, as well as the founder of Region Buzz 219. He offers private and group instruction in guitar, bass, piano, strings, brass, music theory, and music production, with advanced specialization in guitar and bass. Music theory is one of the cornerstones of Nicholas’ teaching, but it is always taught in a functional and practical way. Nicholas is comfortable teaching across a wide range of styles, including rock, blues, soul, R&B, funk, pop, country, jazz fundamentals, and world-influenced music. Nicholas believes that music education is fundamentally about character building and whole-person development. Musical growth becomes a pathway to personal growth, independence, and self-understanding.
Nicholas holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory and Composition from Columbia College Chicago and has completed multiple professional certifications through Berklee College of Music, including studies in music business, creativity, entrepreneurship, and copyright law. In addition to his teaching work, Nicholas has authored and published more than 10 music education resource books, including practice journals, method books, and instructional materials. These resources reinforce structured learning, functional understanding, and effective practice habits, and are often integrated into lessons to support student growth outside the lesson room. Matthew Waddell
Matthew Waddell is one of our beginner guitar and piano instructors at Region Buzz 219. A former student of Nicholas Kazonis, Matt made the transition into teaching nearly flawless. Matt has experience working with children at the Boys and Girls Club and other volunteer activities. He approaches lessons with the mindset that if everyone goes into a lesson with a great attitude, then the lesson itself will be an even greater one.
Matt has roots in jazz and American folk music, but has a strong appreciation for other genres as well. He has also has completed music theory courses from the University of Edinburgh, bringing his certifications to the studio and the lesson rooms. Even though he has the knowledge and discipline to shine as an instructor, Matt is still the goofy friend we all love to hang around. You can register for lessons on Thursday nights to see what we mean. Contact us at 219-472-0626 or email us at info@regionbuzz219.com for openings!
